MAS Removal

How the f*ck do you get the stock air box off that sh*t? Two of the stupid screws on the inside broke the sides holding it in place and keeps spinning when I'm trying to remove it. I tried using pliers but they don't have a good enough grip to hold it in place when turning.

I'm into sawing already so I don't really care about it anymore. Just some help please....as sawing does really give clearance either (I remember Vert mentioning sawing hence I tried it).

And yes, I'm being very careful about the honeycomb inside!!!

Re: MAS Removal

Wow, views with no responses? Is everyone waiting for Steathee to come on or something!?! STEALTHEE!?!?!?!?!

Okay, here are some pictures of what happened--honeycomb was bent at 2 spots. We tried bending them back to the original shape but I don't know if the damage has already been too great to reverse because I've heard that the honeycomb inside the MAS is very sensitive:

Close-ups:

and

I put everything back together and the car has been on for about 10 minutes now with no CEL light on so that's good thus far. But what am I looking out for if the honeycomb/MAS needs to be replaced? CEL light? Rough idle? Car running rich (we could tell by the smell of gas in the exhaust fumes, right?) or running like crap!?! HELP!

Yeah I know...I'm freakin' paranoid...but I can't help it!!!

One final picture...this is what happens when stuff pisses me off!

LOL Thanks guys.

Re: MAS Removal

Yes they are sensitive, but the main thing u dont wanna damage is the little sensor on the other side. dont get me rong u dont wanna mess up the honey combs obviously, but to be honest im guilty of that my self lol. mine has a nice section thats kinds smashed a lil, and i didnt even try to fix it like u did and my car has seen absolutly no difference in its idle or driving. so i havent messed with it. so i think u will be ok. like i said mine is smashed, (i should fix it but im to lazy and it hasnt affected my car so i havent messed with it) and i have no cel or anything. u will be fine just put it back together and start it up. and if the mas is bad u will know. the car will idle rough and will prob stall or u will have to keep giving in gas to keep it running. but it will be pretty obvious if there is a problem.

Re: MAS Removal

Agreed, I had bends that were worse that didn't cause issues. Your MAS should be fine. You'll know as soon as you hook it back up. As for the sensor. DO NOT CLEAN IT WITH ANYTHING!!! I used MAS cleaner to clean mine and it toasted it.

Re: MAS Removal

Thanks guys! Yeah, everything seems to be okay. If anything should come up you know I'll be back posting! But everything's good as of now.

Spent the whole day working on my car (since 6 in the morning) and I am tired as hell! However, I think I'm finally done. Will post pics when I get a chance...

Re: MAS Removal

Just took my car out for a run and it's idling a bit lower than usual. My car usually idles at 900 RPM but tonight it was idling at 700. Thoughts anyone? What do you guys' car idle at?

Re: MAS Removal

Did you happen to unhook the battery? If so thats why its idling lower.

The ECU is relearning the fuel curves etc. Everytime I unhook the battery the car runs a little funny, and idles a little low for the first few miles.

Re: MAS Removal

Dude I went through that like 2 weeks ago. Those screws are soooo gay. I used a crescent wrench and vice grips and found out I needed new hardware from Ace to fit the MAS adapter. I was super pissed. I dinged my honeycomb awful but see no difference.
