95 Lumina A/C Inop

My daughter drives a 1995 Lumina, the A/C is inop. Symptoms...Turn on AC, the compressor does not turn on. The fan works inside the cabin, but the compressor never turns on and nothing but Hot air blows out.

I have checked the fuses in the interior fuse box, and the only other thing I know of is that 5 pronged relay in the engine compartment fuse box. I dont know how to check it or if I should replace it. The wires that run from the compressor seem to be intact.

What should my steps be to diagnose this problem? Thanks for your help and time.

Re: 95 Lumina A/C Inop

This could simply be an issue of low/no freon, an A/C pressure check should be performed to determine the whether the system has sufficient freon to allow the pressure switch to complete the compressor turn on circuit.

My bet also low freon. But you should have an experienced A/C tech check it. It should be evacuted leak checked, any leaks fixed then recharged. Without gauges, vacuum pump, etc not really possible to do correctly.
