P0410 Secondary Injection Sys Malfunction

I havea 2001 S-10 4 cyl, 5 spd, and am getting the above referenced code P0410. Truck seems to run fine but I only get 19-20 mpg city or hwy. Anything to check before I start throwing parts at it? Is the remedy usually to replace the smog pump? Is the code the source of the poor gas mileage? Where is the pump located? My Haynes Repair Manual isn't much help on this one.

Thanks in advance

Re: P0410 Secondary Injection Sys Malfunction

Well, just decided to do a little 100k tune up. New plugs (OEM), new plug wires (AC-Delco), new upstream O2 sensor, new radiator hoses, drive belt, thermostat and new shocks. Also installed a new smog pump (vehicle already had the updated - relocated smog pump hose kit). Have checked mixed hwy and city mileage after two fillups....still only 18-19 mpg. Seems to stay at that same mpg whether hwy or city. Oh, and the check engine light came on a few days later with the same P0410 code again

From what a read, the smog pump doesn't do anything 5 minutes after start up anyway, so I don't think it is causing the mileage issue.

Any other suggestions on how to get this thing back to 26 mpg highway? Clogged cat maybe?

Ross
