01 sebring a/c issue

My sister has a 01 sebring and her a/c will start occasionally be cool but most of the time its hot. It has freon and the compressor is kicking on... would it be a minor electrical problem or does anyone have an idea? Thanks

Have you tested the pressure or looked for leaks?

My 01 has the same problem. It cuts out after about 5 min. Charge was OK. My timing chain disintegrated and I'm in the process of replacing the engine with an '05 2.7L with 5K miles. The '05 AC compressor should take care of the problem with the cutting out.

Your freon is low. When you first start the pressure is high and as the freon starts to flow the low side drops below the pressure switch shut off point. This cause it to cycle off and on.

But is it staying at (low side) above 30 PSI and the (high side) around 250 PSI with the AC running on MAX cold fan on high and all the vents open( this is different if you have rear air) . If you have this then it could be the pressure switch. In advance auto they sell a boost kit (bottle with a guage) that makes it simple to check the low pressure.

Re: 01 sebring a/c issue

having same issues with my girlfriends mother's sebring convertible...I'm thinking blockage maybe clogged exspansion valve but the pressures I'm reading on my gauge set are saying 45 psi and 196psi don't show a blockage or anything... when its on it blows cold for 5 minutes then hot air and no pressure drops

Re: 01 sebring a/c issue

mine was doing the same thing, the electrical portion of these casr ar crap!!!! so iall it usually is, is the control switch inside of the car. where you turn the knobs to adjust the temp fan and direction of the air. try giving it a good jolt and see if that the problem, it was for me so i just replaced it with another one off of eBay it was only like $25.00 plus a few dollars shipping but it fixed the problem instanly and has been working since.
it was about 2 years ago when i replaced mine.
good luck: Lambough
