Lumina APV Blower, No High

I'm having the opposite problem many others are having. My A/C blower will work on every speed except for High. Is this something I can solve by replacing the relays?

Yes check the high speed relay and socket

extensive use of max speed is detrimental to this relay and socket and motor. The 25 amps that flows at that time melts the contacts ; max speed should be used for short bursts only if max life is wanted.

Is it possible to add a resistor on top to limit current. I am in texas and short bursts are not feasible. I change that relay like each 4 months, with maybe each year I have to redo the harness as well. Tired of it. Need a solution or a new car.

First relay went on mine when van was about 3 years old, second one ( and wiring harness) cooked 2 years later. Replaced it with a 30A Bosch style relay, and have never had any more problems, even use high settings for extended periods. I think this relay has large spade style connectors, not the needle thin ones of OE, and was cheaper too. However, it does involve cutting off the old connector and installing a new one to fit the new relay.

Something like this on ebay. Should be able to get a generic one at any parts store. They are very common.

Re: Lumina APV Blower, No High

Just wanted to point out the relay pix shows a 5 wire setup whereas the wiring diagram shows a 4 wire setup (in the same ad) ..so there are diff ones out there.

I believe the wiring in the car is a 5 wire setup ..so something to look out for.
