3.1L V6 Engine

My daughter is looking at a 2000 GP SE, with a 3.1L V6. It has 123,000 miles on it.

Does anyone have some experiences they would care to share? My 3.8L has been pretty bullet-proof, but I don't know much about the 3.1L. I'd appreciate any info you can give me.

Re: 3.1L V6 Engine

The VIN "J" 3100 engine is a good engine although under powered compared to the bigger 3400. Common issue is the LIM gaskets but hopefully the previous owner(s) had them replaced with the revised ones.

Like any used car check it out thoroughly including an odb-ii scan with a full function scanner.

Re: 3.1L V6 Engine

If you buy it, be sure to change the oil and take a sample and do an oil analysis. My mother's 3.1 had gasket problems with about 56,000 miles on it and the oil analysis showed it, so we went ahead and had them replaced.

Re: 3.1L V6 Engine

I have a 2002 Grand Prix SE with almost 85,000 miles on it and the only thing that was wrong with mine was I needed to change the LIM gasket when i first bought it, other than that I love my car!!!
