New Gal Needs Some Input...93 Tbird Lx
Hey Guys! Ok, heres the deal..I just bought a 93 Thunderbird LX w/ 3.8l engine- 131,000 miles, runs awesome...except...
for the past 1 1/2 yrs the guy owned it, it has cut out upon acceleration. It isnt consistent though- sometimes it does and other times it doesnt. (driving on the freeway is a bitch- let me tell ya!) He replaced o2 and mass air flow sensors to no avail- then right before i got it last week, he cut the cats and welded straight pipes from the header to the back. (sounds great-still runs the same) He says give it 100 miles or so to RESET the computer- he figures the cats were the problem?? Im no mechanic guys but this doesnt sound right from what ive been reading. I assume he looked at the obvious other possibilities as spark plugs etc, but who knows? Any ideas ?? Im a single mom on disability and cant afford hefty shop bills!! PS: the car idles and runs like a DREAM otherwise! Cant wait to hear back, and thank you all for having me!

I think the 93 has a Mass Air Flow unit. I'd check in on that. Anyone else have direct experience with the 93?
