98 accord 4 cyl. check engine light and stalling

I inherited this car with 95K miles on it from my mother, who had all maintenance done, at regular intervals, a the Honda dealer. The check engine light has come on 3 times. The first two brought up the code "Cat deterioration" and my mechanic, who works only on hondas and acuras, said to keep driving until I notice a change in the performance in the vehicle. One week before the 3rd time the Check Engine light came on, the vehicle stalled as I slowed down to a light or stop sign, had slight difficult starting (would start on the second engine turnover, and once stalled while i was in the middle of driving approximately 30 mph. Please note that the stalls seemed random... but I do note that they each happened on very hot (90 degree F plus) days, and usually occurred within 5 minutes of start up.

Comments/recommendations? Thanks

You need to know what the code is.

There is no sence to not trust your mechanic but it sounds weird when he tells you to keep driving.

Check engine light tells you - there is something wrong, I need help!!!

From what I have read, cars with that age and milage have problems with oxygen sensor. If you keep drivign with the bad sensor you will hurt your catalytic converter and it will cost you a lot more to fix your car.

Start with reading your codes. Autozone will do it for free.

Good luck,

Sam
