1.3L Head to Block Allignment

I'm putting back together my 2000 1.3L 16-valve engine. I place a new gasket on the block, then lay the cylinder head on top of the gasket, pass the 10 head bolts into there holes and thread them in most of the way. I then realize that when I lift the cylinder head up off the gasket and I can move it around laterally about 5 mm in any direction. How to I align the cylinder head just right so that the tiny oil delivery passage holes line up? I've got to be missing something. I could mount in such a way as to occlude the oil delivery to the cylinder head, or mismatch cylinder wall tops with cylinder tops.

Can anyone share any technique or trick they use for doing this?

Re: 1.3L Head to Block Allignment

There is no trick. You should have two alignment pins that fit snug in two of the head bolt holes. They're not exactly pins, more like short, thin, machined pipes about 1/2" long and 1/2" wide. They are usually stuck in either the head or block when the head is removed. If the head went to the machine shop they pulled them out to do their work. They should have given them back to you. DO NOT INSTALL THE HEAD WITHOUT BOTH OF THEM IN PLACE. Check your parts and the machine shop for them. Good luck.
