replacing transmission

Have a 02 3.4 chevy impala. Transmission is going bad. Is this something a diy'er can do or is better to just pay someone and get it done. Never change a trans in a front wheel drive car. Just wondering if im heading down the road of frustration.

Re: replacing transmission

More than likely. this job is very difficult laying on the ground, the subframe must come down, the engine must be supported, both axles come out, unless you have access to the proper shop/equipment I would think about this first.
