AC won't blow out of vents 2001 Monte Carlo SS

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS. Been having this problem for a few days now. When I started up the car a few days ago I turned on the AC to cool off but after driving for a few minutes I realized it wasn't working at all. All of a sudden it just kicked on while I was driving. It did this yesterday as well. Today it kicked in after about 5 minutes of driving. Then when I got out to go to the store and got back in to drive the AC was out again and did not kick back in. Nothing worked.

When the air is not blowing through the vents I noticied that the Green LED lights at the top above the rearview mirror that shows the temp/fuel etc also does not work as well. When the air kicks back in the LED lights work as well.

Now no air is blowing through the vents at all. Nothing works it seems. No air or heat or defrost. I don't know if I drove longer if it will kick back in like before.

When I turn the switch on the left to go back and forth between air below, below and above, or defrost all I hear is this psssssssss noise. Kinda like air being let out of a balloon.

With this problem when it first started happeing a few days when it's not working there's no air pressure at all (heat, air, or defrost). When it kicked in it was full pressure everything worked as it should.

Now I don't know if it will kick in at all anymore. Maybe if I drove longer not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Garret

I have a 98 Monte that does the exact same thing and I was told that it may be the vacuum. You are the first person I have seen with this problem other than me. If you figure it out, I would appreciate knowing what it is so maybe I can have mine fixed also. Have a good one.

Look for a broken vacuum hose near the battery. This is common.
