I HAVE A 1986 FORD RANGER WITH A 2.9efi AND WHEN I DRIVE IT FOR ABOUT 10 MIN IT LOSES ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE BUT IF I WAIT 10 TO 20 SEC IT STARTS BACK UP AND IT DOES IT ALL OVER...IT DONT HAVE A CRANK SENCOE EITHER

Does it die completely and then start up and run another ten minutes something electrical getting hot is a good possiblity, is it just at highway speeds that it shuts down or even at idle speeds

i have a similar problem with mine right now. it started on mine on the interstate only. the temperature gauge would go slightly above normal operating temperature which is right smack midways of the gauge and the truck would start missing badly and lose all of its power as well as backfiring in the air intake box. i replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and thermostat. the truck does it pretty well here and there now. it doesn't die though, it just loses its power for a bit and then all of a sudden for no apparent reason, it straightens right up. only happens when the truck is warm. i am going to try a new coil. i believe something inside of it is breaking down when the coil gets hot. any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Check for corroded battery cables. As odd as it may sound, corroded battery cables can cause the problem. The typical situation is a complete engine power loss after a hard acceleration, yet the engine will restart without problem. That's what happened to my vehicle!
