1999 Blazer Loud Revolutionary Noise
I am attempting to repair my mothers car. It is a 4.3L, automatic, with 4X4. The vehicle has about 150,000 miles on it and had the front 2 wheel bearings changed at about 100,000 miles. My mother took it to a friend of the family who seems to know his way around a garage and he determined that it was the front right wheel bearing that was going out.
The symptoms include a loud revolutionary grinding noise in the front right side. When you jack the vehicle up, the wheel has very little play (if any) top to bottom and side to side. The CV boot is intact and there doesnt seem to be a very noticable grinding noise when I spin the wheel by hand. When the wheel bearings went out before they made a loud squeeling type grinding noise that was constant. This time it is not a constant noise but more with each wheel revolution. The noise does not get better or worse when making a turn. I am trying to decide that it truly is the bearing that has gone out. These symptoms do not seem to be consistant with the previous 2. Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks! |

Re: 1999 Blazer Loud Revolutionary Noise
They should not have any play.
If jacked up you can usually hear or feel a rough wheel bearing when the wheel is turning. Does the noise increase with MPH? Driving down the road at 35-45 MPH turn the steering wheel a little to right or left and is noise changes it is wheel bearing noise. When replacing them first time did you use the good ones BCA/National/GM or the el cheap 90 day bearings?
