Coil Packs

How long do coil packs typically last.

Re: Coil Packs

I've seen them go beyond 200,000 miles with no issues. These coil packs seem to have a long life span, as I haven't come across any that have gone bad. The ones in my Ventures were still going strong past 130,000 and 160,000 miles.

Re: Coil Packs

I have a 1999 Pontiac Firebird, 3.8L automatic. My problem is the ignition control module which has failed and been replaced 3 times. I am trying to find the root cause. The one lasted 1 /2 years, the second one only 6 months and now a 3rd one has just been installed. I am a 40 year mechanic with ASE certification, but I am pretty limited in electronic problem solving. I would appreciate the help and lesson in electronics on this issue. Thanks

Re: Coil Packs

My van started to studder really hard all of a sudden with no real symptoms before hand. It would almost stall at some points. Garage ran diag scanner and found that one piston in particular had misfired 11000 times. The others were only a few times. Plugs were recently changed but they checked it for cracks but they were good. Determined either bad wires or coil packs. Replaced both and worked A1. I wondered why they wouldn't have just changed wires first but they appeared pretty sure of the packs. It has 170000km on it.
