stalling

I have a '99 A6 wagon that has been great until now. Recently it has started stalling while braking to turn or come to a stop. It started yesterday a few times and has increased in frequency today. At stop lights I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it from stalling. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Re: stalling

try replacing your fuel filter. being 9 years old i would guess that is the likely culprit. Other than that, it could be a screen on your fuel pump, or some sort of idle controller. I would start with the fuel filter first.

Re: stalling

You mentioned above in your problem that engine stalled when you applied the brake. when you apply the brake, the load on the engine increases, this sudden increase in load need more air fuel which is not possible at the time of braking because you foots off from the accelerator cable, another factor is that it may not getting the proper air fuel mixture due to some foreign particles present in fuel supply system so it is necessary to clean up parts from fuel supply system. Mechanical failure, low spark, impurity in gasoline is some different reasons as per my knowledge. Stalling also happens when you as a driver forget to depress the clutch or change to neutral at the time of application of brake. Also the position of gear is very important phenomena if you stop vehicle in 2nd gear, due to low torque available in the 2nd gear compare to 1st gear, vehicle may stall.

I also had a same problem in my 2007 Mazda sedan, I called my dealer and they solved my problem, but I suggest you for check the wiring of your lights. You can check it nearest service station.
