Ignition Switch

My father-in-law has a 1999 F-250 Super Duty turbo desiel 7.3l 4x4. I am pretty sure that the ignition switch has gone bad. Is there an easy way to swap it out or does anyone have instructions on how to go about doing that?

Re: Ignition Switch

You need a manual with you if you haven't done before. Buy a factory manual or check a Haynes manual at Auto Zone or Advanced.
http://www.alldata.com/ sells a years subscription for around $25.00.
If you buy one make sure you print a wiring diagram before it expires.
Basically you need to remove the steering wheel. A wheel puller is required.
Some stores rent the tools needed. From past experience buy a origional equipment key switch.
The ignition switch is located on the steering column. Close to the brace for the hold down. A wheel puller isn't required for this. This is the electrical part.
Make sure it is installed in the exact spot as they can be adjuster. The unit uses tamper proof torx. Buy 4 small bolts if you don't have one. Small channel locks to remove.

Re: Ignition Switch

Thank you but I didn't have to go through all that. It was just the lock cylinder that was broke. You just turn that to the run position and then push the pin in, on the bottom through the hole in the plastic casing with a small screw driver, and pull it out. The T that engages the actual switch was broken and I need a small pair of needle nose pliers to get that piece out.
