A new A/C issue

this just started recently. when i get on the throttle my a/c dies out then blows out warm air till i throttle again. then it works like new. any ideas what is going on? compressor was rebuilt less than a year ago and it worked fined till just about a week ago. it still has plenty of power as far as blowing air out the vents. and i had it recharged not too long ago, still says its full. when on the highway and maintaining speed, it works awesome, im usually wiping off ice cubes when i get to work. its the around town stop and go driving that it acts up. any ideas? anyone?

The AC motor/compressor has a kind of clutch built into the pulley assembly.

This clutch disengages/engages the AC compressor from the (always turning) pulley and fan belt.

I believe it is electronically controlled, but it sounds like it is cutting in and out. This could be because of an electrical bad connection or short, which is shaken by the motor rush.

Generally ALL poor electrical connections can only get worse, because they also corrode in the air and moisture.

On the other hand, there could be something wrong with the clutch/assembly itself, so that it only engages intermittantly.

When I priced a new AC unit (because it was eating fanbelts) it was several hundred dollars. The pulley/clutch assembly itself was $192. So I pulled the AC unit and put in a dummy pulley wheel for $50.

Re: A new A/C issue

im pretty sure its the wiring. i have to actually shake the wire harness near the ecm now and then or the car wont start. funny thing tho, i've had 3 diff mechanics look at the wiring and said that its fine. have had several things fixed in that area, including installing a performance chip and the non-start never occured while they were working on it "only when I do". hmmmm
guess i'll have to dive into it sooner or later...
