removing air box?! and vacuum lines??
i was thinking about removing the airbox on my 92 explorer.
i have a air intake from my old 92 civic, it doesnt fit but the air filter does. it is one of those big round cylinder looking ones. i was wondering if i could take out the stock airbox and filter and connect the new filter on. well i already did and got it to fit, has a little more roar and acceleration in the higher rpm's. but i ran into a problem, im not sure what to do with the vacuum lines that connect to the airbox. im not even sure what they do?!! i dont see any way of reconnecting them to the new filter. so before i drive it w/o them i would like to know if that is going to mess something up. anybody ever modify the air box or filter? i havent ever even seen a aftermarket air intake for the older explorer's. that box sure seems restrictive though. |

Re: removing air box?! and vacuum lines??
Oh the stock intake is restrictive because it goes behind the headlight so thing of the heat that gets sucked in when the headlights are on and not much air gets to it, shouldn't have to worry bout the vacuum lines, I think they're just vent lines like the crank case but I'd have to check my manual to be sure.

Re: removing air box?! and vacuum lines??
I just put a new Intake in my 94' Explorer
I wasn't to sure about what to do with the Vacuum lines either ![]() So I asked my stepdad who is a mechanic of sorts and he said I should hook them up to the intake somehow. So for my truck I had to buy an adapter to even get the cone filter on, on the adapter there was a black plug like hole. What he said to do was take the vacuum lines (including the little steel/aluminum plugs on the old airbox) and plug them into the little black plug To do this I had to go to Napa and by a 3/8's adapter and 3/8's hose (about 3 inches, not really needed but its whatever) I drilled a small hole into the plug I took out of the hole in the adapter and put one end of the 3/8's adapter in the hole (nice and snug) and then plugged it back into the hole Then I put the vacuum lines back on the steel/aluminum thing i took off the airbox and put the 3/8's hose on the Small tip of the steel/aluminum thing After that, put the other end of the hose onto the other end of the adapter and its all connected. Not sure what the point was, but I got'er done
