Smile seat cushions

I want to replace the tired seat cushion on the driver seat. After 8 years, I am sitting on the frame of the seat. How do I get to the foam in the seat to replace it? I need to replace the back foam as well. I have a lower back problem and it kills the back after awhile.

I too have been looking for a replacement foam and have not found a source. It has taken a back burner now until I get the headgasket issue worked out . If nothing else one will have to make it out of sheet foam or carpet padding.

seat cushions

thanks for the link to gm parts..but what I am needing is how to dis assembly or as we used to say, tear apart the driver seat, to get to the cushions.
the cushions can be purchased from any textile place or fabric stores, usually special order (correct measurements and density of foam are required to make sure you get exactly what you are needed). We have Lens Mills here in SW ONtario, who supply various thicknesses and density of foam, and they work.
Just have to cut them to size. I just recut the foam for our couch cushions, and oooo..new foam under a butt!

Re: seat cushions

the head gasket..thats a problem that is shared amongst the major car manufactureres, since one gasket manufacturer sold the same gasket to all 3.
I had mine done by my garage for 1300$ cad...just before last winter or all the water would seeped in through the gasket and destroy the engine.
get it done before winter.
I have noted in our summer here in sW Ontario, the phenomenol gas mileage I am getting because the entire engine & compartment is warm or hot!. Now if I could duplicate this scenerio for the winter. And this is city driving!!

It looks rather straight forward in the manual. Undo the electrical connections under the seat. Remove the bolts holding seat to floor and take out the entire seat. Once the seat is out remove the lower seat bottom from the seat back. Then remove the hog rings on the bottom side of the seat cover to take the cover off.

Re: seat cushions

Make sure that you don't set off your side impact air-bags....if you have them.
On my 2K van, they are imbedded into the side of the upper seat back.
I am always worried about messing with them........
Just a precaution. Your computer needs to send a trip signal to make them go, but there is always another way.......hope that you don't accidentally find that way out!

Re: seat cushions

damn...always a catch!
we thought of switching with seats from junk yard, but consider its the same kind of cushions we have now (poor quality OEM GM cushions)....no go
I opted for getting better quality cushions from a textile store, special order.
