Taurus failure codes 1744 and 741
Hi,
My transmission warnig light started to flash while I was driving on the highway at 65 mph. The car still running good. My transmission specialist scanned the transmission and found code p-1744 and p-741. He checked the selinoids and they were ok. He told me that the overdrive didn't always engage. So he told me that he has to replace the valve of the overdrive. Does it sounds right? Remote316

Re: Taurus failure codes 1744 and 741
Thoe codes indicate slippage being detected, both issues are related to the tcc solenoid, 1741 is continous slippage, 1744 is excessive slippage. Your trans man need to check operation of the tcc, torque clutch converter.. as usual, other trans pieces may, not necessarily, be causing an issue also with this.

Re: Taurus failure codes 1744 and 741
1744 ("Excessive Torque Converter Clutch Slippage Detected"??) sounds like the same code I got a four years ago after I completely transfused my transmission fluid at 97k miles after never having changed it once from brand new. 400 miles after the transfusion the code appeared and stayed ON (even after being repeatedly cleared) for several months. It wasn't until I got around to completely transfusing all my coolant, that the code went away and never returned. My conclusion was the gunked up cooling system was not sufficiently cooling the NEW tranny fluid, causing a heat buildup that was triggering the code. Why the old, burnt, fluid never threw a code, I don't know. Maybe it didn't hold as much heat?

Re: Taurus failure codes 1744 and 741
Since the car seemed to be working fine when the codes were apparently set, you should also check the operation of the input and output shaft speed sensors which are what's used to determine if the TCC is slipping.
