02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

02 CXL 3.4L 101,450 Miles

My abs is coming on at low speeds and coming to a stop at low speed. Ascending hills or turning corners causes the abs to come on. (I can feel it through the car and pedal). 2 times the AWD DISABLE and ANTILOCK have come on during this. The error code does not come on all the time and the code disappears once the car is shut-off.

I do not know if this other information has an revelance, but the driver side wheel bearings are less than 8 months old. Passenger side rear wheel bearing is brand new this weekend (6/21/08). Passenger side front wheel bearing is a couple years old. This abs problem started about 1 week ago. I thought maybe the ABS was being affected because my recently replaced passenger side rear wheel bearing was so bad it was affecting the ABS. Problem is still there after replacement. If I can get the code to stay in the system I want it to get checked at Autozone. Anybody have any opinions as the what can cause the ABS to go haywire?

Re: 02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

You need to have it scanned with an abs function scanner, AZ cannot do this, I would suspect a bad wheel speed sensor, the scan will look at those inputs.

May be a wheel sensor, but many times it is connection to sensor that is bad (corrosion/ broken wire kind of thing). A tire that is really low could also trigger it.

Re: 02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

After driving the Rendezvous for a while I managed to determine everytime I turned to the right the ABS would go off and cause the ANTI-LOCK light to go on and the AWD DISABLE to come one. The entire left side had wheel bearings replaced about 8 month's ago. This weekend I jacked up the left side, unplugged each connecter, blew in it, wriggled the wiring harness and reconnected it. BAM!!!!! Problem is gone. I either had a loose or bad connection or one of the wire's is kinda crimped. For now....it's fixed.

New guy here, so take er easy on me.

Our 2002 did the same thing. The problem is the 2 wires that go to each sensor. If you pull the sheathing off a few inches, you will find a break in the wire. Fix it and you are good to go.
You will have to pull each wheel off and check witch side the break is on though. Mine was the pass. side.

I'm sure when you wiggled the plug it connected for a while. My guess is that it will happen again.

Let me know if this helps at all.

Gerald.

Re: 02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

Awesome...I'll keep that in mind. I've got it narrowed down to the driver side. I'm going to check it out. My other thought was a bad wheel bearing sensor. Both wheel bearings on driver side are 6-8 months old. One was china, one was USA. I was thinking one was defective.

Re: 02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

i had same problem its not the speed sensor or wheel bearings its the conection where the abs coupler is. the wires ware out about two inches before the coupler and causes a short. bad design.

Why would the date of the thread matter? It's all useful information to anyone that needs help.

First of all the forum rules address this, second, after that length of time no one is paying attention to that old a thread.

Re: 02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

03 Rendezvous During slow speed stops the brake pulsates like the abs is coming on. Has been getting worse over the last several weeks. No abs or traction lights come on. Dropped off at dealer and could not find what is causing it. Also contacted Buick tech support and not able to figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: 02 Buick Rendezvous ABS Problem

These threads show up on search engines for people like me who are searching for info about their vehicle(s)- so yes, people do pay attention to these threads years later. A sincere thank you for all the shared info!

In March my ABS began to activate when I applied my brake at speeds < 10mph when turning left or right. Then it began to also occur at low speeds when in reverse and straight ahead. I can hear noise and feel thumping/slipping under the pedal (reminds me of the sound when dragging a stick down the length of a wood fence). I'll check the suggestions previously made. Thanks again.

True, but what MAX is trying to say is, you are more apt to get an answer if you post your own problem, on your own thread, instead of jumping on a thread that may be years old....
