Backfire Thru IM

Well I am having a major problem. My 2001 2.2L Sunfire is not running on its own! I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, starter, battery, gas, oil, plugs, wires, cam sensor, and the crank sensor. I just got done replacing both the cam and the crank sensor, because when i do start it and i have to give it gas to get it to start and keep my foot on the gas to keep it running, after about 30 seconds of me doing that it will die even with my foot on the gas and back fire thru the engine. thinking my timing was off and thinking those sensors would fix the problem but it didnt!!

With gas prices the way that they are right now, i need to get this peice running. Is there any anything anybody else knows or maybe had the same problem and would be willing to give me some good advice. Thanks all

Re: Backfire Thru IM

Auto Zone and Advanced Auto will scan the engine free I would suggest you get this done and write back with the codes. Do you have a check engine light?

Talking Re: Backfire Thru IM

Wow...you repalced a lot of parts and done a lot of work....with no results.
How many miles on the car ??? How did it go bad...just woke up one morning, when to start it and there was the problem ??? mmmm Mate.....sounds like a bad hang-over...

Troubleshooting is a systematic apporach....like doing wood work...you plan it based on facts, measure it twice, then cut once!!!

1. Battery, Starter....did u get them checked ? and both were bad ???
2. Fuel pump...that is a major job and costly $$....Was the fuel pressure bad ???
3. Oil, filter, plugs, plug wires...are maintenance items and new ones will never hurt. These are cheap and easy to replace.
4. Sensors...they are expensive. I hope you had a DTC that indicated it was suspect or bad...or you wasted your $$$$ ( I rather spend it on beer)

The point is......The car has a OBD II system....as noted in the other post...use it...it will get you in the right direction.

You are right about gas prices, that is why I ride a old school chopper !!! The only reason I own a car....I can carry more beer back from the pub !!!

Cheers Mate, Good Luck.... JzJzz and the Man from Down Under...
