AC only on drivers side?

Hello,

I have a problem that started around a year ago or so. On the drivers side the AC is nice and cold, passengers side it is hot. I went through messing with the valves under the dash and came up empty handed. Took the car to the shop and was told I need a new AC pump (would not be cold on drivers side if it was shot).

Anyone have a idea what it might be?

I think you have a problem with the air control doors. you are going to have to remove the plenum to track it down..your right, replacing the compressor would be a waste of time and money.

Ok today I removed the cover to the heater core and took a look around and all seemed normal. I watched the vacuum valves open and close as different heat cycles were selected and they also look normal. I went and un-plugged the vacuum lines to those valves and reconnected and all was fine. But, after putting it all back together now there is no AC even on the driver side. Compressor kicks on and off but no cold air at all now. I don't really understand what I could have done to make it not work at all!

When you speak of plenum are you speaking of the housing the heater core is in? This would require the dash be removed correct?

Yes the plenum is the box containing the heater core and evaporator along with all the ducts and air control actuator motors. could you actually see the doors move or just the levers on the outside of the box where the actuators attach? It is not unusual for the doors to break free from the levers they are attached to. To check for this you need to open the box and the box needs to be removed to do that.

just a thought...if you have a hand vacuum pump you can operate each actuator and listen for the door to hit at each end of travel. that can save you from pulling the box out.
