Lost key

My wife has lost our only key to our 97 SHO and I need to know what my options are. The dealer wants 300+ to R&R it but I have never relied on anyone to do any repairs to any of my vehicles so if I had the proceedures I am sure I could do it. I know it needs to be programmed to the comp. but not sure of how to. Is it just a regular cyl. replacement with this exception or is there more to it.. If anyone has the proc. to do the R&R please contact me as soon as possible my email is [email protected] Thank you for any and all help in this matter...

Re: Lost key

Sorry, I don't respond directly to e-mail addresses. That defeats the purpose of these forums.

To program additional ignitiion keys, you need two currently programmed transponder keys to enter the programming mode, all additional keys you want to program, then follow the procedure from the owner's manual or as posted in other threads on this forum.

Your options currently are to visit the dealer or a properly equipped locksmith.

Re: Lost key

Thank you for your help. the only reason I listed my email is in case someone has a diagram and I wasnt sure that this site would be able to link to it.. that is all.. but thank you.. actually this is a pasI so all I would need is a single key and that option is out and the dealer said 300 to R&R a lock cyl. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to do a self R&R.. or rather had instructions on how to do so.. But thank you...

Re: Lost key

You're correct, your '97 requires only one programmed key. I made a bad assumption that your '97 was the same as my former '98. However, it still requires one programmed key. No way around it for the DIY'er. Sorry.
