Head Gasket?

So earlier today I opened up my hood on my 99 Grand Am Se 3.4L and noiticed there was a puddle of coolant on my transmission. I looked around the engine a little and noticed it was not only on the transmisson, but also on the engine near the EGR (not coming from it) as well as on the left side of the engine near the belt. Here's a few pictures I took.

Re: Head Gasket?

Welcome to AF.

Sounds like a lower intake gasket leaking, typicalon the 3.1/3.4's, how many miles on this 99 GA ???

From the pics, it also looks like you are leaking oil out the LI gaskets.

Have you noticed any coolant in your oil or oil in your coolant ??

Here is a link for the LIM procedure.

Re: Head Gasket?

It's the 3.4L. I have over 110,000 miles on it. I'm in the process of running some tests. So far it's not overheating, but I do run out of coolant quite often (about every two weeks). It does kinda look like there is some coolant in the oil but it kinda hard to tell because the oil had a slight tint since I put it in there about a month ago. I replaced the intake gasket with the new one they had came out with around november. I was looking at that oil on the sides and did notice there was a little on the ground.

Re: Head Gasket?

Humm... if you just repalced the LIM then it should not be leaking again unless the torqu specs were off....

You say you did use the updated gasket kit ?

Have you done a compression test ?

Re: Head Gasket?

No I didnt do a compression test. Whenever I get a chance I will take another look at it. Chances are my torque specs were off by a bit. I know that it doesn't take much to screw the whole assembley up.
