Fueling problems, 98 Corolla

98 Corolla on last two fill ups the tank would only take fuel very, very slowly. Would make the gas pump kick off even on the slowest setting. Tried different pumps, different stations, but same problem. Is there something in side the tank such as a vent tube or anything else that would cause this?

Thanks

some have a second flap down at the tank like the one the gas nozzle pushes open when you put gas in . the flap could be stuck closed.

Go to page 150 in the Camry repair manual. There's a link at the top of the Camry forum. I know you have a Corolla but your system is simular.

Re: Fueling problems, 98 Corolla

Problem solved, dealer diagnoised problem as a bad valve near the tank, they replaced it, same problem. Carried back to the dealer the same day and they found a dirtdabber ( a wasp like insect that builds nest from mud) had stopped up the vent tube. Cleaned it out and problem solved.

To the dealer's credit, he did refund the price, parts and labor for the valve they had changed and charged only labor for cleaning the vent tube.

Re: Fueling problems, 98 Corolla

I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris which I bought new. On June 24th I attempted to fill up and was unable to. Since I have been unable to
fill up ANYWHERE in town. The Dealer charged me $125 dollars to "check" the fuel system where he tells me everything is alright -
except that he isn't filling the gas tank!
Since then, I have discovered that 2 and 4 door 2007 Yaris's have trouble putting fuel in there tanks at more than one of the fueling
stations they visit.
In June the California Air Resources Board decided to "change" not only the fuel pump nozzles but also the fuel output of all fueling
nozzles. The new requirement is a MINIMUM of 6 gallons per minute [that's a gallon every 10 seconds]. If the nozzle/pump comes
up short then the Station gets fined! If I were the Station Manager I would insist on at least 20% more - 7.2 gallons per minute.
I have an appointment next week with the head mechanic with the head mechanic to take it to a fuel station and have the mechanic
try to put fuel in.
ARB says that they have had many problems with the SAAB.
Also: Late model Ford Mustang with Saddle bag gas tanks.
OTHER OFFENDED VEHICLES:
07 Toyota Yaris 4 door
06 Toyota 4-Runner
98 Toyota Corrola
08 Chevy Cobalt
2011 Ford Fiesta
I understand that MANY people are having trouble, and in my case, an impossible time getting fuel into their vehicle. Your not alone!
