Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO LOAD
Since its going along so well I figured I would post pictures and videos of the work.
After months of getting money together we finaly got all the money to buy the last of the parts we needed to get it running. We got it running 2 days ago but later relized we had all our oil lines backwards and some not hooked up. On top of that we forgot to screw in the passenger side oil plug in the front of the block so when we started it we lost over 2 Quarts of oil all over my driveway. So after going back and forth to the part store we finaly got all our oil lines hooked up right. Got the rest of the intercooler pipping hooked up. We went out and bought a Greddy BOV to replace the Ebay one we had. We also picked up a nice spark plug wire cover that has DSM cut out of it. When we first tryed to start it, all it did was click over, didn't even adpent to turn over. We did some looking around and relized the starter ground wasn't hooked up. So we hooked it up, went to start it and nothing. Tinkered around some more and went to start it for the second time, and all it did was build compression. Tinkerd around some more and got it running on the 3rd try. But like I said up top we had to shut it off real quick due to oil going all over the place. Parts List Ported & Polished Evo Exhaust Manifold Slowboy 60 over ? Turbo (can't remember the exact size) CXRacing 2.5" Intercooler Piping Massive Front Mount Intercooler (can't remember the brand) Walburg 255 Fuel Pump 880CC Fuel Injectors Greddy BOV Stanless Steel Inlet and Outlet Turbo Oil Lines DSM Spark Plug Cover I know that I'v MISSED alot more, but I can't remember now. Nice! What are you doing about engine management and a MAF?

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO
MAF? LOL!!!! Is that Mass Air Flow? If so then right now its stock, but we plan to upgrade it later. We have an Apexi Turbo Timer and ? (forget the name but it lets use adjust the fuel injectors). For engine management we might go with an AEM, but where not sure.
Give use some ideas on management and a MAF. This is our first Turbo car. So we are going by what ppl tell use and by what our friend has on his car.

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO LOAD
Oooh damn dude, you definately should NOT start that guy up until you get a little more work done. You will need some form of fuel adjustment to account for those injectors, and a SAFC's range is only to about 650's so you will need a better piggy back or a standalone to run those. You will need a mass airflow too, as it pretty much tells the ECU how much air is going into the engine so it knows how much fuel it needs.
As for the engine management, the two most common for DSM's would be DSMlink and the AEM EMS, though there are other ones such as Ostritch, Greddy Emanage, Megasquirt, and Haltec. DSMlink is absolutely what you should get IMO, its easy to use, has excellent support, and is very powerful. I definately think its the most cost effective too, $515-$545 depending on whether or not you need your ECU socketed. The AEM is a good tuning tool as well, but its very expensive and as I understand there is a steep learning curve. As for a MAF, you should get either a 2g (will go between the filter and the compressor inlet) or a GM one with the MAF translator, which will go somwhere in the UICP. Oh, I have a blue hood too if you want it. Its in northern MN and it was sanded in prep for getting painted, but I'll let it go cheap if you want it. |

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO
We plan to get a carbon fiber hood, later down the road. But thanks anyways, and I have heard that the 2nd gen MAF are better, we where thinking about doing a 2nd gen swap sooner or later (more sooner that later). We also plan to buy a DSM Link next time we get paid, we are also going to get a new boost controller.

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO
Got some more parts, moneys been a bit tight. But we got new MAF stuff. We also got an Eagle Talon back bumper and tail lights, that we will be putting on this weekend.
![]() ![]() ![]() I do have one question, we followed the instructions that we got with the MAF, it told use to run the white wire to the black wire on the 2nd pin on the Cam sensor plug. So we did that, but it doesn't say ANYTHING about the other purple wire that is on the MAF. Does anyone know where this purple wire goes? After we wired the white wire up and pluged everything in we turned the key over till the leds came on then went right off, like it said they would. We started the car and it idies fine. But we don't want to run it to long without finding out where that purple wire runs to. We also screwed up our Turbo timer some how. The turbo timer was already ran when we bought the car, we unplugged the ECU to check it was chipped. Then we noticed what a CRAPPY job the old owner did to wire the Timer, we undid it and rewired it (he had it running under and over things, when it only needed ran through the back) after we did this, we noticed the timer blinks untill you turn the key on, then it stops. But once you turn the key back over it blinks again. We tryed to set the timer down like we have done before, but it does NOTHING. It only blinks and wont let us adjust it. The old owner had it ran to the ecu plug. And like I said all we did was rerun the wire and rewire it to the SAME wire he had it ran to. But now it only blinks. How can we fix this?

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO LOAD
Why did you put the airflow sensor before the turbo? You need to put it in the upper intercooler piping, somewhere between the BOV and the throttle body.

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO LOAD
Yeah man, you definitely put it in the wrong spot... I think the purple one isn't used on DSM's. It says in the book that comes with it what each wire is for. Try cross referencing it to installation on other apps besides just DSM's. I'm like 90% sure it said in there what it was for. You already wired up the one that needs to be tapped into an RPM source, right? I forget which color it was... I'll be at my car tomorrow and can take a look at the wiring.

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO
We where told where we have it at right now is fine. We need to get more reducers before we can move it. And we did cross ref all the wires on the paper and it said nothing about the purple wire, we just wanted to make sure. Its the white wire that runs to the cam sensor plug, pin #2 witch is the black wire, so we ran it there.
If ANYONE has an reducers that they want to sell let me no. We have 2 1/2" intercooler piping and the sensor is 3". If anyone has 2 reducers from 3" - 2 1/2" let me know and we will be happy to buy them off you. *EDIT* Just got done talking to my one friend that is running an 11 sec DSM, and he has his sensor in the same spot that we have ours. He said the ONLY diff is if you move the sensor in between the throttle body and the BOV, is the BOV will be ALOT louder. Hes been running his sensor where its at for years with no problems. So I think its safe to say, we are safe. Plus Iv been doing some looking on DSM Tuners and alot of ppl are running them like that. So where we have it is fine.

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO
Quote:
Your friend is wrong. Air metering takes place at the MAF. If you meter the air where you are currently metering it, you cannot vent the BOV. If you move it to the upper IC, you can. Read more, listen to your friend less. Purple wire is not used. Pull the TT and buy a harness or toss it. Don't wire voltage dependent devices to the ECU unless you must. Period.

Re: Twisted Motor Sports 1990 Eclipse GST Project *56K WARNING MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO
We worked on the car yesterday, and during that time we had moved it around a little, (under its own power) and we noticed we are getting ALOT of smoke out the back, then we noticed we have oil leaking out of the downpipe. We pulled our intercooler piping off the turbo and found fresh oil laying inside of the turbo. So we pulled the turbo off and took it apart and found a nice build up of oil.
We think our seal is bad on the trubo, but we cant get the one nut off to see the seal. After messed with that a bit, we did the Talon bumper conversion, still need to wire the lights up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This coming saturday we are going to finish up the swap and cut off the muffler, since we are getting a whole exhaust system.
