Gear selector

Hey guys,
Its been a while since I have posted as I have had no problems with my APV. I have stopped by a few times but found nothing I could really help anyone else with.
Here goes. My shifter started acting strange, would not go into 1st gear manually, and the indicator was off about half a gear. Went on a few days like this, could not see anything physicly wrong under the hood. Yesterday I went to put it in park, nothing, no nuetral, reverse or park, only forward gears. I got it home, could put it in park from under the hood, and then it would go all the way down into 2nd no problem. Shift it back up and it would only go into drive thats it, no further. I disconected the cable from the trans, still had the same problem. I assumed it was the cable as the trans shifts fine manually. and the shifter still acted up even when disconected from the trans. I got the cable out, It seams to work fine by hand out of the vehichle. As does the shifter on the columm. I looked before removing the cable was not kinked in any way.
Anyone else had an issue with their cable?
92 APV, 3.1, 3 spd. auto.
Thanks Harold.
