need some help please
I'm rebuilding a holley 4160 4 barrel and have a question. In the secondary side fuel bowl there is a metering plate instead of a metering block, between the metering plate and the carb body are 2 gaskets, between the gaskets there is supossed to be a thin piece of metal called a secondary metering body plate. During the teardown of this carb I found that this plat was not there. My question is, "Do I have to have this thin metal plate in the carb or can I get away without it? What does it do? Any help would be great! Thanks.

Re: need some help please
Welcome to AF.
Holley made about a bazillion variations of the 4150/4160 design. Rebuild kits often have parts or make reference to features or equipment that are not present in all carbs, especially if your carb was built for a specific application, and is not a 'universal' aftermarket item. For example, I have a crate full of old Holley 4150/4160 carbs which were installed on Ford engines in the '60's (and even one from a 1 ton Econoline van with a 460 from 1980.) All these carbs are dramatically different even though they are all the same basic design as yours. Could you please post the carb part number, It should be a 4 digit number (ie "8007") stamped on to the air horn (choke housing). Also, your metering plate should also have a number, which refers to its relative jetting size . Could you please post it as well? These numbers can tell me what parts you should have. Most carbs without a metering block have one metering plate on the secondary side. However, sometimes additional changes were made to allow for more precise control of the jets (such as the secondary plate) which may not be necessary, especially if the carb was jetted satisfactorily before the rebuild. |

Thanks for helping!
The LIST number on my holley 4160 is,"0-9834-1". I hope thats the right number. As far as the secondary metering plate numbers, here it goes: 8---34R-9716B. I'm guessing that the first number(8) is the metering plate size. My Holley book gives a whole list of different plate numbers and there sizes and the one marked 8 says,"secondary metering restriction size(main hole) .067, and secondary idle feed restriction size(Idle hole) .026. Thanks for the help.
