Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
Hey guys, Been missing the cap over the passenger side cigarette lighter since I bought the car. Things like this sort of irritate the hell out of me as it should never be seperated from the car in the first place.
Anyone know where I can get either a new cap or a whole new socket with blug attached? Also how do I get it out? I tryed twisting behind it today when I had the center console apart, but it didnt seem to want to come out. Any Ideas? Thanks Guys!!!

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
![]() You mean that flaky tethered cap? Actually that is the accessory power outlet like for cell phone power adapters, radar detectors, etc. Only one cigarette lighter was delivered at the ash tray. Funny that the Grand Prix is the only GM "W" body car that doesn't have a nice spring loaded plastic cover like its sister cars. Check with Rich.

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
Oh I forgot. To remove the outlet you should see two small square windows looking inside of the socket. You'll need to use something like a fabricated tool when you press in those at the same time and then pull the socket out towards you. Maybe a coat hanger wire with an L shape. The dealerships use a GM "J" (J 42059) tool shaped like a T.

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
Ok, Thanks Bob, I appreciate it!
I will try and get it out. Bad thing is my socket isnt bad, just missing the cap over it, and it annoys me that the interior isnt complete with it.

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
I have mine, but the little retainer ring broke so the cap can just come off. Right now I have a radar detector plugged in that spot-the cap is just in my glove box. I'll sell it to you for $200.
Or you can get this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Volvo...spagenameZWDVW OR Go get one of those air fresheners that plug into the outlets! I'm full of helpful ideas, aren't I.

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
I think we see a common theme here. Why are people breaking these things off? And then why cant they just throw them in the glove compartment, I just dont understand people sometimes.

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
How strange! My 1998 is missing it also and I only noticed it a while after it was at the dealer for service and they swore that they never touched it since they did not have to do anything in that part of the car - but I know they did it since there is hardly anyone in the passenger side of the car. I am still hoping to get it fixed since it bugs me - it looks so unfinished!

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
I agree. Unfinished is a good word for it. Anyone know the Part Number for one? Rich Maybe?

Re: Grand Prix Cigarette lighter
I'll chime in here also. I have mine there, but it will not stay closed. I push it in and the next time I look, it's out again. If I keep doing this, I'll end up with it in the glovebox.
