Shuddering...transmission problem?

I have a automatic 98 Cavalier which has given me no real problems up until now. Lately, my car's been slow to accelerate and it "shudders" when shifting gears. It gets so bad that it will make the car jerk. NAPA suggested adding Shutterguard to my transmission fluid, which I did and it was ok for a day, then back to jerking. I brought it to my mechanic last month and he changed my transmission fuel and filter and said it should be fine. NOPE! Not even a little better. I'm just wondering if I need a whole new transmission or if maybe there's a less expensive solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Talking Re: Shuddering...transmission problem?

I hope he changed the transmission " fluid" and not the "fuel". Ya....it was a typo I hope ???

Transmission Problesm....I leave them to the experts. Don't mess with your local wrench...ya he is good but not a expert. Ask around town, part houses, friends, the local biker-bar or NASCAR hangout, who to go to in your town for transmission work. Let them check it out, the know the type of transmission and history, plus they have special tools the local wrench does not have. This will save time and $$$.

Me, I stay away from the "chain" name store, unless you have a good reference from someone !!!

And last...if you are a women and dont have a mate, or boyfriend. Get one !!! Stop by the pub by the garage and pick up one with dark shades, greasy hair, dirty blue jeans, and grease on this hands. Make sure he has some kind of car or motorcycle tee shirt on. You do the talking, he is ony a prop to make you look like a car smart person. Every 30 second tell them to say...in a deep voice " That's right baby"

JzJzz....I said too much...time to hit the pub for a slab..Cheers !

Re: Shuddering...transmission problem?

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I meant fluid, not "fuel". As for the boyfriend, yes, I have one...but he doesn't really know much about cars (he can fix his son's motorbike, though).

I agree with ya on the "chain" name stores, so I guess I'll have to do some detective work and find out who's good around here... Hopefully it won't cost me an arm and a leg cuz I'm kinda used to having 2 of each!

Thanks again for your advice.
