I need to settle a argument

Ok my friend has a 96 DX with a d16 non vtec and he was saying with headers, manifold, exu, and a tune that he can get 200 hp at the wheels, I think that it will be amazing if he gets more than 140.

What do you guys think.

Re: I need to settle a argument

Dude no way in hell! I got 99 civic si b16 turbo 320 hp 7psi. Those dx engines have stock 111 or something like that hp. Exahust, Headers, manifold, intake, ecu, tune. 10-15 hp tops. First off putting a cold air on none vtec engine doesn't really do anything because it does not suck in a lot of air to begin with 1-2 hp. Exahust system headers, cat, whatever, whatever, again no vtec so not much exahust it being pushed out 1-2 hp. Ecu again what are you going to do with an ecu? you have no vtec to turn up or tune. Maybe you can run at tdc but still 2-5 hp max. d16 non vtec are just gutless, they peak very low, no way can you tune this to 200 hp with out supercharger or turbo. I've tuned a lot of hondas, yours... not worth it. Better off buying a vtec engine and starting there.

Re: I need to settle a argument

Ya his brain oozed out his ear or something, I just commented on someone else asking about d series engines - they are notorious for NOT responding to bolt on mods. His best bet would be to throw a turbocharger on the car, even then he would have to have a slick tune and some know-how to get 200whp out of that mill. Hes gotta remember that pulling 100hp/l out of that engine would still be only 160hp, which is even less at the wheels - I seriously doubt he could do that even with internal engine mods, cams, and a valve-job...but what do I know

Re: I need to settle a argument

haha, wow thats pretty sad, but dx make 106hp, and the intake, header, and exhaust, might, i said might give u a bump in hp, like 3hp, this motor sucks for almost any bolt on, and if you turbo it youll end up with a melted piston in a hury......200 hp???LMAO
