1999 Grand Voyager Power Window Switch Problem

The switch for the driver's side window works sometimes. All other switches on this panel work. The manual says there is a fuse only a dealer can replace. At a dealers parts department the technician said to first check out the fuse before replacing the $86 to $130 switch. Does each switch on the panel have its own fuse? Thanks for any help.

Just to be clear, you are certain that the switch is the problem? The PW regulators on these vans are notorious for going bad is why I ask.

Your dealership should know what they are talking about but, my schematics for a 99 Voyager don't agree. I see no fuses in the switch panel. Zero, none. I see 2 PTC fuses on the Junction Block (dash fuse panel) #8 and #9, both 9 amp. I see PTC fuses in each of the window motor assemblies.

Expanding on webbch thoughts, PTC stands for Positive Temperature Coefficient. These fuses are in reality, circuit breakers. If excessive current flows through them they heat up and open the circuit. Once current is removed from the circuit they reset and close the circuit again. In your case, I believe your window mechanism may be binding, forcing the motor to draw excessive current to the point it trips it's internal PTC "fuse" stopping the motor.

Your window switch can easily be verified good or bad using a multimeter. Might try that first.

I have had problems caused by a dirty contact in the switch. Take the switch out and give it a good clean. Also make sure the connector in the door is in good shape and not corroded.
