Hasegawa "Denso" Toyota 88C

As some of you have read in the "ACME LeMans Palooza 2008 is in the history book" thread, there were several of us that built a model of a Lemans racer from any previous Lemans race. Mine was the Toyota 88C from the Hasegawa kit.

Built strait out of the box, painted with Tamiya Pure White and Italian Red and cleared with Gunze B501 clear (thank you Veyron, that's good stuff!)

The only think I changed about the kit is I thinned the tow hooks, front and back, to get them a little more "in scale" looking.

Starting with a primed body I built in about 22 hours total over a 24 hour period (I did get about 1.75 hours of sleep). If I had it to do over I would paint the white on the side windows instead of using the white decals... and I may still do that in the near future.

Thanks to Zoom-Zoom for taking these pics as I left the model at his house instead of bringing it home with me on the airplane.

Thanks for looking...

The window is not tht noticable, apart from that awesome, quick build. No fitment probs?

That is one hell of good looking car.
It may be simple but there is an elegance in those lines.

Yes yes I agree DM, I ever thought, simple but in the same time terrific: shame I never seen a real one on the track: with all those HP must be something. Eric the job is fantastic, seen yet on the Palooza thread, you all done something aliene considering the time you got. This meant that with a sabbatic year we could mount 365 great models? It's almost my stash... what an idea!!! LOL

BRAVO!

The Toyota 88C owns in Gran Turismo 4 . Cool build. I think I may have to do a few GT cars. Does the cockpit or engine compartment open?

Re: Hasegawa "Denso" Toyota 88C

Considering the time amount you invested and besides that, this model is awesome. I couldnīt have done it better needing 2 years. Nice and clean work. I also like the photography using the white background.

Re: Hasegawa "Denso" Toyota 88C

Thanks guys... I've always loved the look of the 88c also.

MidMazar... only fit problem were with the windshield and headlight covers. All were too big and had to have the edges sanded to give a more flush fit.

Mojo Stevo... no opening parts, it's a very simple curbside style, even the wheels do not steer and has no suspension detail to speak of.

As far as building it in 24 hours, I guess it's not so unusual to build a model in that number of hours, say 2 hours a day for 12 days is not so bad. I spent 22 hours on this model. It's simple enough (other than two tones of paint) to build in less than 22 hours but I'm picky and can't rush myself or I'll be unhappy with the result. Just ask my friend zoom-zoom... He will say I'm too patient and keep him in suspense...

Who, me?

Don't forget it was Veyron who coined "the 24 hours of unmasking" when you were taking what seemed like weeks, I tell you...to remove the masking so those of us impatient souls could see the red/white paint scheme sometime in 2008

My D-Type is in the shop for some post-race repairs and upgrades Needs a new windscreen due to my melting the kit provided one with a hair dryer , and needs to have some more rivets added and a set of hood straps added that I think were left out of the kit
