Question Odometer problems on 98 Caravan

My car has had an ongoing problem that noone seems to be able to fix. My odometer light stays on, even after I shut off the car. It is on 24/7 and as a result, I will have a dead battery if it sits longer than a day. The battery is only 9 months old. I brought the van to the shop back in January for this problem, as well as flashing lights on the fan/air conditioning panel. They replaced the ignition switch, which fixed the flashing problem but the odometer was still staying on. I just brought it back in again because I am getting tired of jumping the battery (and the lights were flashing again!) They could find nothing wrong with the system that could be causing this. They said I may need a new instrument cluster to fix the problem, and if that doesn't work, they will look into it further. My question is, can there be something else done to fix this, before I spend another $600 on this car? I would really appreciate any feedback!

Re: Odometer problems on 98 Caravan

A very long shot but, try pulling the IOD fuse in the fuse box next to the battery. Leave it out 2-3 minutes then reinstall it. This will reset the Body Control Module which controls instrument panel functions. Not really what you are looking for but, if the odometer disappears when you pull this fuse you could keep pulling this fuse to kill the odometer until we can come up with a permanent fix.

Re: Odometer problems on 98 Caravan

many caravans have this problem and if you let it go your guages and spedo etc wont work. take out the 4 screws that hold on the a/c stuff and unplug it and inspect for a burnt terminal I JUST did one 5 min ago. Clean it up and plug back in or get one from the junkyard
