expansion valve
Hi, Can anyone tell me where the AC expansion valve is located on my 2000 Grand Prix GT w/3.8L? I believe it to be cracked or damaged and is my last ditch efford to get my AC running before selling the car. Please let me know, thanks!

Re: expansion valve
Not you again.
![]() Still having issues I see. I'm assuming you are also meaning the orifice which includes the orifice filter. It is located under the area of the power brake booster and master cylinder. A PITA to get to.

Re: expansion valve
That OT very rarely needs attention- usual failure mode is loss of refrigerant due to a shaft seal or compressor leak on your "W" car.. so what are your symptoms? not cooling, yet compressor runs all the time? typical low charge scenario if yes...

Re: expansion valve
I appreciate all the help you all have provided. It was mentioned to me that i could have a faulty expansion valve since the high side tube (small one at the firewall) is getting ice cold when it should be the reverse. The logic being that if the expansion valve were damaged, there would be no restriction and the liquid is turning from liquid to gas before it enters the evaporator core in the car. From the previous thread no leak was detected during a system evacuation and vacuum draw (performed at GM dealer). Compressor runs fine and car is charged correctly. Has anyone ever replaced this before, any tips or tricks to it?
