cv and axle replacement

I have a 89 dadge aries with a 2.2l,3 speed trans. I removed the axles and replaced them with rebuilt ones. when I put them in. the car was in park. the wheels will turn. even with the shifter in park. I was wondering if maybe something changed in the transmission while the axles were out? I lost all my fluid and put some back in. I was wondering also if a low fluid condition will allow the trans to act as if in neutral? I removed the axles and it appears there is nothing wrong. I did start the engine and the trans will not spin the wheels. and when I put the shifter back into park it was grinding, even when I had my foot on the brake. Hopeing someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks Dan

Re: cv and axle replacement

I found that the splines on the right axle are to small. The parts store had my cores. When we compared them the new axle splines are obviously smaller. We had to order the one for the 2.5L instead of the 2.2L. to get the right spline size.
