Power steering pump install? & diagnostics

Whats up guys, quick couple questions. My car seems to be leaking power steering fluid and started to make a strange noise turning and hitting the gas. So temporarily I am just refiling it and the noise goes away, funny thing is is that when the car is cold it doesnt make the noise but the second it heats up to temp it starts again. Does this sound like the pump is going?

Now for my second question. If I buy one at Autozone is this an easy install, I mean i can see where it is and it looks a bit tight. Does anyone have a step by step link thing to this one? or should I even need it? Thanks guys

~Joe

Re: Power steering pump install? & diagnostics

It could be a poers steering hose also, put some power steering fluid in have someone crank the wheel while running to the left or right until it will not move to the stops. It should spray out and the leak is found.Don't trust AutoZone parts, they sell the cheapest garbage and do not care about quality.

Re: Power steering pump install? & diagnostics

If leaking for sure you need to find and fix the leak first.

For power steering pump removal and replacement we have a tech procedure at our Tips & Maintenance forum applicable to both L36 and L67 SII 3800 engines.

Definitely check the hoses. On one of my previous vehicles, I was about two seconds from replacing the pump and decided to check the hose instead. Surprise, surprise, there was a pin-hole leak that shot straight out.
