Well....

Well after staying here for a year we decided to decline buying this house...we were already approved but the owner wanted us to stay there a year to see how we liked the house and the are...few things wrong that were supposed to get fix and the crew that the owner paid to fix the problems never did any work and so we decided to end our lease with option to buy

so we decided to move out by the 15th and since we procrastinated, we found a place on the 12th and started moving in on the 13th...since we waited so long it was just us moving with the help of my mom and her friend...they help us on Saturday, but it was mainly the wife and i since the kids were in SC. i finished last night at 12:30 by just putting out clothes on the arm of the chair since there was no power

today the power was to be turned on so i left work early made a few stops and this is what i was greeted with when i got home

apparently the stove was left on and we didn't know since there was no power and my wife had put a box on the stove...

all of our stuff was still in boxes so there's not that much damage...you can see the smoke line

had i come straight home i would have been there when it started, but had i been home, i would have been sleeping in the bed
the dining room

den

daughters room

our bedroom

on top of that, the car quit on me today at Wendy's on Western Blvd

i'm close to exhaustion at the moment...spent the whole weekend moving and sleeping on the floor...finally finished moving at 12:30, got 4hrs of sleep and planned on taking tomorrow off so i could get some rest and this happens...now i'm at my moms about to sleep on the floor...i'm spent...only good thing is that the wife and kids are in SC and won't have to see what's happened...i'm hoping they stay there until she goes back to work in July...but no time for feeling bad, i have a lot of work to do tomorrow

Re: Well....

well the car started and the main things that we loss were everything in the kitchen, basically all my wifes clothes, not sure how the electronics faired the heat since Duke Power came and removed the meter and i'm not too sure what else...but it was good that everything was still in boxes

the fire started putting itself out and the fire department was there like 10-15 minutes after it started...which was a good thing

but overall i'm still happy that it wasn't as bad as it could have been and my wife stayed calm when i told her...now we just have to explain this to the kids

Re: Well....

Geez man. That's gotta suck. Glad to hear no one was hurt. Hope that everything gets sorted out and repaired. And I'm sure your car is a trooper, I mean it is a Honda. Best of luck with everything.

Re: Well....

Soooo....

the total damage was estimated to be around $70k...since the ac unit was on, the smoke was sucked into the return air ducts, so they need to be cleaned or replaced...because of the heat in the back, they plan on replacing the drywall and if the smell is in the insulation, that's getting replaced also. the fixtures, windows, and carpet needs to be replaced...they got a P.O.D. for us so all of our stuff is getting put in there. They're going to try and replace everything of ours that was messed up and reimbursed us for all the money that we're spending and tomorrow we're going to probably spend the next month or two staying in an extended stay hotel. shouldn't be too bad. it was nice having a week where everything i wore was new. but since we started cleaning out the house today i was able to get some of my clothes so i can wash them. still seems unreal that this happened. a lot of stuff is getting tossed and i'm unsure if my 52" hdtv made it the homeowners insurance is going after Duke Power and they say that there's a 40% chance of them winning. all in all...i spent my b-day cleaning and moving stuff out of the house

stuff melted on the mantle

someone call the zoo b/c these pythons are loose

Re: Well....

damn dude... if that ever happened to me, I'd probably flip the fuck out.

but at least you're getting something back out of it.. never know, it might turn out (somehow) to be a good event for you.

Maybe, just maybe, something great will come of it.

And, if not, at least noone was hurt... things can be replaced... lives can't.
