Please tell me if my car has a problem

Can someone tell me if this is normal please

I have a Ford Escort 1.6 when letting the car Idle for around 7-10 minutes the temperature gauge goes up and then the fan comes on is this normal? it doesn’t go into the red but its very close to it but then the fan kicks in and it goes back down

When driving the temperature gauge goes down

The car only had a service 2 months ago but do they check for this?

Also where is the temperature gauge suppose to sit if you park up some where and leave the engine running is it normal for any engine to get hotter making the fan come on?

Thanks for any help

What you describe is perfectly normal. The fan is supposed to come on at high speed before the temp reaches redline. The fan should turn off when the temp is back in the normal operating range.

If you have low coolant or a possible blockage in the radiator then this cycle may happen more frequently than normal. When the fan is running you should have good flow through the radiator. Check the upper and lower hoses for pressure to determine if coolant is flowing properly.

Very normal. . . You said this happens when the car is idleing. The car heats up because you are not moving. Without that air flow coming in through the grill to cool it off the engine is bound to heat up. When the temperature reaches a certain point the fan will kick on to cool it back down.

I agree with Hungrycat7. Since there is no airflow through the radiator it gets hot and the fan comes on. Just like it's supposed to. In fact, I sometimes test my cooling fan by letting the car sit and idle. If it's working right the fan kicks on. That way I know it's working. Better to find out sitting in my driveway that on the road (overheated).
