93 accord new tie rod problem
When I replaced my tie rods and tightened them back up with the castle nuts the hole in the stud that the castle nut goes on was not in line with the top of the castle nut.So when I put the cotter pin in the hole it does not catch the top of the castle nut unless I bend the end of the cotter pin down toward the top of the castle nut.All thee of my Hondas that we drive are in line with the hole when I took the wheel off and checked.Any ideas?

Would a washer under the nut raise the nut so the hole catches the castle nut.

Re: 93 accord new tie rod problem
Sometimes just a larger cotter pin will get you in there...how far above the castle is the hole?

Re: 93 accord new tie rod problem
I was able to bend the cotter pin down so it catches the castle nut so there is no worry there. I just did not understand why the new stud comes up higher than the old one. Does wear and tear from where the stud sits in the hole make it come up higher? But that doesn't seem right because the old one would have moved up which it didnt.I was able to tighten the new one fine and the cotter pin is doing it's job even with it bent I just didn't understand why.It would seem if the stud is higher than is the protective rubber over the ball joint going to have any problems.is b

Re: 93 accord new tie rod problem
I think sometimes the aftermarket just isn't real good about getting the dimensions right on Honda parts....
You're right, the hole should not wear out, the taper of the stud is what determines how high in the hole the stud will be...wear occurs at the ball end, and usually moreso in the socket surface. I think they just don't get the taper quite right. Where did you get the parts? sometimes overtightening can get you there too...some have real light torque specs...most people like to really crank them down...

Re: 93 accord new tie rod problem
your right about tightening them too much.Unfortunately with my original tie rod it kept turning and then when I realized I went too far the threads were messed up.So this time I was more cautious.I bought the parts from the Honda dealer.I usually buy from Majestic Honda (online) but the parts guy gave me a more competitive price and I would not have to wait for shipping.Anyway the tie rods are on tight and I think you are right about aftermarket. Thanks
