Question 2 door 4x4 with possible t-case issue

I have a 1998 4x4 2 door tahoe. It is a z71 and has the push button transfer case. I was inspecting the truck over the weekend and noticed play in my front drive shaft. The truck was in 2hi when I did my inspection. I could not move the shaft side to side but I could move the shaft (north south) or in and out of t-case to some extent by a quarter inch or so. I do not have any leaks on the t-case. Is this normal? The 4x4 functions well in hi and lo. Maybe I should check it out when the system is engaged in 4hi? Any thoughts on this one guys?

Regards,
