Having problems removing caliper anchor plate
I tried to replace the front brakes on my 98 Winnie. I got the calipers off. I tired to remove the bolts holding the caliper anchor plate to get access to remove the rotors, with no luck. I sprayed penetrating oil on the bolts, no luck. Hit it with a electric impact wrench, no luck. I don't know what else to do?? I'm a little worried that the bolts will snap if I do anything more to them. What a piss off!!
Any help would be great, thanks! Anthony |

Re: Having problems removing caliper anchor plate
It might take some time for the penetrating oil to work its' way into the threads.
I have found PB BLaster to be a good product. The link in my signature will take you to pictures of various projects that I have done on my '96 windstar....and I have a series of pictures that show, step by step, my front disk brake job.

Re: Having problems removing caliper anchor plate
Put lots of heat on just the pin, preferably as close to the threads as possible. Then quick cold quench it with water. Maybe repeat this. Then, if no luck, heat up caliper around the pin thread area and then try your impact. At the very least you can try a propane torch. Good luck.

Re: Having problems removing caliper anchor plate
the caliper anchor plate bolts on installation are "red" lock-tited so they are a bit hard to get off. I don't want to state the obvious (I have admittedly made this mistake myself) but you are undoing these bolts not tightening them right? Being installed in reverse direction and all, mental gymnastics come into play for tightening and loosening. The first time I removed my anchor plates I turned the wheel so that I could get a braker bar with a 2 foot long pipe extension on it and the bolts loosened. Don't worry about using new bolts as the FSM only says this as the new ones would have loctite on them for installation. Just clean up the threads on the ones you remove and add some new red loctite and you're good to go.

Re: Having problems removing caliper anchor plate
Thanks guys for the help.
I also turned the wheel so I was able to get a cheater bar on the bolts and they didn't move at all. And yes I'm wrenching in the proper direction. I can't believe how simple it is to do a brake job on these Windstars. If I'm ever able to remove the plate. |

Re: Having problems removing caliper anchor plate
Well the brake job is completed!! I took my time with the cheater bar and was able to remove the bolts. Looks like the penetrating oil worked it's way in from yesterday. Thanks again everyone for the suggestions.
