Exclamation Crank, no start, crank then starts

2000 Chevy 2500, 6.0, 4x4. When I first try to start the truck, I can crank it all day and it wont start. I let off the key a second, crank again and it will stumble a bit but then starts. From the guy who I just bought it from, he said this started after he had the fuel pump replaced a few months ago. Any ideas??

if you read the many posts about this issue you will find your answer as every week some one has asked this question ....

measure your fuel pressure then with that the answer is usually a bad pump/replace filter/ check gas tank fuel pump ground at frame rail..

must use OEM pump ...most pumps made by others fail in a few months.

it could be other problems but YOU must provide the answers to what was checked what was found as it is too vague as to where the problem lies.

Re: Crank, no start, crank then starts

Ok, I got out there today and got a fuel pressure gauge on it. Here are my findings:

Key in the on run position: 5 psi

Key in the crank position: slowly climbs from 5psi engine starts at about 35 psi, continues to climb to 49 psi

Holds between 49 and 53 psi while revving on the engine hard

Key off, the pressure quickly falls to 0

As I said before, this is a new fuel pump, assumed to be aftermarket. New fuel filter as well.

your fuel pump is no good....replace with oem type not some after market type....also to be safe replace fuel filter as well. then check pressures I'm sure you'll see faster starts and pressures 55psi range with no pressure drops on shut down....let us know what happens..clean and check for security the pump ground at fuel tank on frame rail....

Shouldn't the fuel pressure regulator keep the pressure in the lines after the key is turned off?

if your injectors were leaking badly it could be that,it could also be leaking fuel lines but if its bleeding down fast and cylinders aren't flooded and you don't smell gas leak it's usually fuel pump check valve ...this causes rapid bleed down most of the time as well as low pressures...

the regulator diaphram could have a hole in it , remove vacuum line to it if it smells of gas replace regulator...

If you want to know,Carquest's fuel pumps are now made by Delphi.Carquest did the switch to Delphi and ditched Airtex because a lot of many comebacks.Never had a problem with a Carquest fuel pump since they switched to Delphi and it has Delphi's logal on the box.
