Still buy an LS after repairs?

So I'm thinking about buying a used 2000 Lincoln LS V6 with the manual transmission. I don't have a specific one picked out yet (i'll be buying one next month, waiting to finish my research).

I'm well aware of the coil problem and the rear window regulator.

Since I'm buying the car 8 years later, X miles later, and lets assume the original owner(s) already fixed the head gasket and window regulators.

Is it safe to assume the car is already good as this is somewhat of a one time issue and the car has already come over the hump and its smooth sailing from here?

or should I expect the problems to continue?

Re: Still buy an LS after repairs?

Welcome to the forum!

If the valve cover gaskets and plug well seals (not head gasket) were replaced with the redesigned version, the coil issues will probably be fixed. However, be aware that the manual transmission is only available on the V-6. The bank 1 valve cover gasket is not easy to get to. If a misfire was experienced on bank 2, the previous owner may have only replaced the bank 2 gasket in an attempt to save money.

Also during the test drive, pay careful attention to noises when driving down the highway and through town. Listen for wheel bearing noise or squeaks or rattles from the suspension when hitting bumps in the road. Ball joints on these can get expensive in a hurry as can wheel and axle bearings.

Profile car:

1) Check doc Service records + make sure current.
2) Check for current Valve cover + Spark Plug boss seals.
3) NGK Radium Spark plugs.
4) ECU + PCU REFLASH software.
5) Recall for frnt Cowel!
6) Check trunk for water leaks.

Caution- Someone is resetting codes prior to resale, during negotiation you
might want to spend $150 for reflash + checking black box for previous problems.

Note: It takes time to throw a code!

I bought a S TYPE JAG for 3K + 1K for parts,and did all the service myself.

I'am very happy with this car!

The Lincoln LS + JAG S TYPE are siblings with problems, when they first came out.

Over the years ford has did a good job weeding out these problems out.

What is the car worth without updates?
