wet trunk

Water is leaking into the trunk of my '97 civic 4 door. It happens most when the car is parked and not so much when I drive it. I've read in another thread that it could be the tail lights but what can I do to make it stop?
thanks for your help

Re: wet trunk

Run a hose on them and verify that they are leaking first.

Try tightening the nuts that hold it in first.
If that doesn't work, remove them and replace the gaskets.
And check the mateing surfaces, they bend easily and could be not
makeing contact.
If that doesn't help, some silicone them back in.

I also have a 97 civic lx. I had a water leak and no it wasn't the tail lights. If you open the trunk, peel back the plastic cover from the driver side (area behind where the tire area is. You will see a black flap. I still dont know the name but all I know is mine was leaking. When I ran a hose, water would gush in between the weatherstripping on the flap and the metal. It took me forever to figure it out. But that water had to be fixed before I put my subs/amp back there. So, I spent about 30 minutes applying a sealant and letting it dry. For almost 6 months now haven't had any leaks and it looks to hold strong. I wish they just made the metal flush and left this little hole out.

Re: wet trunk

that was it for me to carbobmb. There was also a crack between the quater panel and the rear panel that was leaking. So I used some scilicone to seal everything up and it's been alright.

I have another question though. Are the tubes on either side of the trunk behind the carpet drain tubes for the power roof?

Thanks for your help and tips.

Re: wet trunk

Well Unfortunately I have a model without the sunroof (which I dont mind because Im a bit taller and the extra headroom without is beneficial to me. However, but my experience tells me that they probably both are part of it and while your there make sure those drains arent clogged. Blow a can of air into them to make sure nothing is clogged and or leaking....

Wish I could help more but as I said no sunroof. How do you like the sunroof on your civic? I always figured even with tint you would get more direct sunlight. I have limo tint all the way around (cept the windshield) to keep it cool in these hot Sacramento summers... Just wanted your opinion. Thanks and I hope that helps some.

Re: wet trunk

I love the roof. There's an interior shade that you can close to keep the sun out. We also own an '02 Protege5 with a roof and the interior shade has vents so you can tilt the roof, close the shade to block sun, and still have some ventilation. Nice when parking where there's no shade to keep the car cooler.
