Coolant leaking, but no pressure leaks
I have a '01 Venture and just had the coolant system checked and the mechanic said that there was no pressure leaks in the system. I've had to add coolant a couple of times and the level keeps going down. Does this mean it's leaking into the head gasket? The van runs fine. Do I have to get this fixed right away or can I wait? How long can I wait before the van is screwed? Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Re: Coolant leaking, but no pressure leaks
Hello Gert, how much coolant are you putting in & how often??with a warmed up engine(thermostat open)& you are loosing fluid it should show a pressure drop on your pressure tester.if its a slight leak it may take awhile but still should drop over time.with pressure on system i'd look at all hoses/clamps very carefully including radiator cap.if you see nothing & oil looks ok you may have to wait until leak gets worse & im sure it will

Re: Coolant leaking, but no pressure leaks
There are some parts to the system that are not pressured that could be leaking. There is also a good chance that it is leaking when hot and is never seen. I'd bet on the lower intake gasket if I was to guess.

Re: Coolant leaking, but no pressure leaks
thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. One thing I've noticed is the level seems to staying pretty constant the last week or more at about 1/2'' below the fill line. When I top up the coolant to the fill line, it just goes back to the same level. Have you seen this before?
