Rear end question???

Hello all,
I have a rear end starting to get noisy, I just had the oil changed and they said they checked the level, it was a little low, but now much the guy said.

SO...

If I change out the read end is there any better then the other... besides the 9c1 (8.5 I think it is) Anyways if I go wrecking yard hunting, I may as well look for a change now if I am going to.

What about gearing, the stock I think is 3.08, is there a better option that came in another car/year?

Re: Read end question???

3.08 is probably the best compromise between tire-smoking torque and $4.25/gal gasoline usage. You might be able to go with a 3.42 but in my experience, it didn't add a lot of 'oomph' to the car, certainly not enough to justify the increased fuel usage (went from 19/gal highway to 16/gal highway). You haven't told us what you are driving, so I can't help you as to what you have.

Re: Read end question???

Your 91 should have 3.42s I believe. Take a look at your SPID and look for a code there like GU4 or something similar.

Let's figure out what you have now before swapping something out.

Re: Rear end question???

I did find a GU4 code, amongst many others. lol But there is a GU4. That likely mean 3.42?? That's not bad, maybe i will see about having the rear end fixed then...

Re: Rear end question???

Gu4 = 3.08
Gu5 = 3.23
Gu6 = 3.42
