04 Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition A/C Issues

Hello and Good Day!

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition

First time posting here been reading quite a bit of the posts and learning a lot. I have a few questions before my Jeep goes back to the dealership this Friday.

A/C first, the ON switch lights up when you press it and the A/C goes on and blows cold. Within a minute the light goes off and starts blowing warm. If you press the switch on and off a few times nothing happens. But if I play with the fan knob turning high to low a few times back and forth fast, the A/C light goes on and starts working again, (a few minutes) temporarily till it goes off again. I'm thinking its the button or switch??? I think it's covered under my extended warrenty I bought.

Second, the drivers side door controls (Electric windows, door locks, mirror) will not work if the drivers door is open. (example: if I'm gettin out of the truck I cannot unlock other doors or put any windows down unless the drivers side door is completley closed even with the key in the on position and truck running. Is this a safety issue? My '02 Laredo used to work even with the doors open.

Check Engine Light has been on since the week I bought this truck last December. It's gone off once or twice for a day or so, but comes right back on. When I brought it back to the dealership he said it's called a Cold Start (because I started it during a cold day in January???? What does that mean? I can only drive my car on warm days?
Someone else said my gas cap wasn't on tight, but I'm sure I click it many times when filling my gas., and I also went back to the dealership and bought a New gas cap. just to proove to them and myself it wasn't.

I don't think it's right that I spending $15,000 on a truck and have to drive around wth the check engine light on all the time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Take it to AutoZone or Advanced Auto and they can read the codes and tell you what's going on. The codes and their causes are also listed here somewhere, do a search. That check engine light should NOT be on, don't let em BS you, make them fix it, and fix it all.

1. Never heard this one before but I would hazard a guess the (rotary) switch has a faulty connection.

2. My '01 power windows operate with the driver door open, key on, but it may have been a safety related late year or running change.
But you should be able to lock/unlock all the doors with the drivers side door control, engine off and no key in the ignition at all times.
There is a 30 second power window delay - after the key is turned OFF you can operate the power windows for 30 seconds OR until a door is opened.

3. Check the actual fault code/s using the ignition on/off method:

Insert the ignition key, turn it (to the On position) three times in succession then leave it On.
(On/Off, On/Off, On)

At the third "On" the odometer will be replaced with code/s or "done" if no codes are present.

Check the description of the fault code/s here:

(Bookmark it for future reference)

Post the codes here if you need further help.
