'88 CRX/DX engine doesn't start

I have a 1988 CRX DX (D15B2 Engine) and the engine doesn't start. I can smell the gasoline and sometimes I get small bursts from the throttle body.

I thought I was an electrical problem so I bought a new Distributor, Cap, Rotor, Plug Wireset but, I still have the same problem. The engine does not start and there is no ECU errors.

Before the engine died I had problems trying to turn it on. Sometimes the Engine didn't start and I had to pray every time I tried to turn the engine on. Sometimes the engine started but it didn't work smooth, like one cilinder was not working. At that time I got the error code 16, so I went ahead and I changed the Main and the Auxiliary Fuel Injectors and I checked the Main Relay.

Also, the Fuel Filter and Oxygen sensor are almost new and I just changed the Temperature sensor a couple of months ago.


Could be the ECU, is there another sensor I should check?

Well you say u smell gas rite? RUN!! nah jk. Yeh anyways all i can think of is that its probably a bad fuel pump.

I got pressure in the fuel line.

It seems like the ECU is flooding the Throttle body with fuel, but I can't figure out if I have an electrical problem like a sensor giving a wrong signal to the ECU.

Any ideas? Which sensor should I check?

If its flooding the throttle body with fuel then maybe your injectors are not opening...I know you said you replaced a few but I would check into it.

your ecu could be gone, take someone elses if possible and see if the car will at least start with a new ecu, then get another one for your car.

My ECU is the 37820-PM5-A060 for Manual Transmition. Do I have to find for a test the same exact ECU or I can use other models, like the 37820-PM5-A560 for Automatic Transmition?

i think the auto should work because my friend was running an auto b16a ecu in his b16 which is standard, so it hsould work

I tried with two diferent ECUs and I doesn't work.

The first one was a 37820-PM5-A560 and the second was a 37820-PM5-C00

Any ideas?

The car is driving me crazy

After my last post I checked the plugs that I changed just one month ago and I found them full of oil. I bought new ones and then the engine worked.

With the engine working I made several tests. I adjusted the timing, idle speed and I went for a test ride.
Everything seemed to be okay but on the next day when I went to change the engine oil, the car did not start. I checked the spark plugs right there and I saw oil on them but, I was not enough to think that the problem was the plugs again.
I thought that the timing was not okay so I moved the brand new distributor a little bit and the engine started. I went home, I connected the timing light, I followed the Chilton procedure for the timing adjustment and the engine worked fine. I went for a test ride and everything seemed to be okay.

Next day my wife wanted to try the car and she went to the supermarket and when she was coming back the engine didn't start and does not matter what I do, the engine has not started since.


Please help.

try check the spark plugs again and see if its fouled with oil

if you can try and do a compression test on it... see if your head gasket is gone or if a valve is broken ect... that'll give you plenty of grief... and check to make sure you are getting spark to the plugs... pull one ground it out and have some one crank...
